Maybe a day late, but an interesting fact about Saint Patrick that I wanted to point out yesterday is that in addition to being brought to Ireland as a slave (and returning to convert the inhabitants to Christianity after escaping), he also considered his Christian converts to be citizens of the Roman Empire in spirit. This is an interesting example of how much the Romans thought of themselves as a culture, rather than a government. Does anyone else have an interesting tidbit about Saint Patrick that they'd like to share?
